The Oregon-based cartographer chose to depict London in 1666 – the year of the Great Fire – and made his creation from covers of the book ‘A Journal of the Plague Year’ by Daniel Defoe.

To represent the extent of the destruction, Picton took a match to his intricate handiwork and burnt areas destroyed by the fire.

As a result, the fascinating map features damaged landmarks including the half-remaining section of London Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral in its ruined state.
